Children’s health

Friendly care you can trust

At Stortford Accident & Medical, we offer calm, responsive care for tamariki and their whānau. Our team is experienced in children’s health and will take the time to explain what’s happening and what to expect.

We’re open 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday, and welcome both enrolled and casual patients. Urgent calls are available on weekends. Please phone us and follow the after-hours instructions.

What can we help with?

We can support children and young people with:

  • Coughs, colds, and viral illnesses

  • Skin infections and rashes

  • Minor injuries and accidents

  • Immunisations and routine check-ups

  • Ear, nose, and throat concerns

  • Ongoing or chronic health conditions

When to seek care for babies

If your baby is unwell, trust your instincts and don’t wait to seek help. You should contact us if your baby:

  • Is under three months old and has a fever

  • Is between three and six months old with a temperature over 38°C

  • Shows signs of dehydration, such as fewer wet nappies or a dry mouth

  • Refuses to feed or has trouble feeding

  • Seems unusually sleepy or suddenly struggles to sleep

  • Has vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation

  • Develops a rash or discharge from the eyes

  • Has a red or tender belly button or penis

If your child appears seriously unwell and we’re not open, visit your nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) department or call 111.

Childhood immunisations

Staying up to date with immunisations helps protect your child from serious illness. The national schedule includes protection against MMR, whooping cough, pneumococcal disease, meningitis, and hepatitis B. Please speak with us if you’re unsure about the vaccinations your child is due for.

Costs

Standard fees apply for children’s appointments. However, we can provide many services for children under 14 at no cost. Please check our Fees page or contact reception for details.
